19/10/2016 - After world-premiering at Busan and winning an audience award, Virgil Widrich screened Night of a 1000 Hours in the international competition of the 32nd Warsaw Film Festival

Virgil Widrich • Director

Night of a 1000 Hours [+] is Austrian director, screenwriter and multimedia artist Virgil Widrich’s third feature film, following countless experimental, animated and documentary shorts that he has made over a career that spans more than 30 years. In a way, the film is an extravagant experiment in itself, employing an inventive set design, the use of rear projections to create a surreal period mansion. Cineuropa spoke with the director before the film screened at the 32nd Warsaw Film Festival.

Shoot of "Barrage" started April 18th. In and around woods, a lake, tennis courts and a chalet, the film brings together three generations of women, caught in the puzzling world of motherly love. Next to Lolita Chammah and Isabelle Huppert, the young actress Thémis Pauwels has been cast to play the youngest of these three women. UK based artist Petra Jean Phillipson will be in charge of the soundtrack. The animating limits are within, to be killed and mourned, over and over again.

A busy and exciting year ahead, starting off with the premiere of Das Ding aus dem Meer at Théâtre des Capucins on January 8th! After two more shows in Luxembourg, on January 12th & 13th, the play will also be on at Theater an der Ruhr in Mülheim, Germany, on January 30th.

Straight after that, Laura will plunge into the preparation of her next feature film Barrage. Produced by Red Lion (LU), in coproduction with Entre Chien Et Loup (BE) and MACT Productions (FR), the film will star Lolita Chammah and Isabelle Huppert.

Shooting will take place in Luxembourg and Belgium in May and June.

We are starting to prep this new adventure with Laura now...

After ten years abroad, Catherine (30) returns to Luxembourg, to catch up with her daughter Alba (11), brought up by Catherine’s mother Elisabeth.

Alba is cold and distant with this stranger showing up unexpectedly in her life, so is Elisabeth, keen to keep her protégée to herself.

One day, Catherine cannot take it anymore. She kidnaps Alba and takes her to a lake up North. Begins an unsettling journey into the puzzling world of motherly love.
